You have read more than just your fair share of poker tips. You have paid your dues and read the books, watched the Youtube videos, and you’ve signed up to all the newsletters you can get your hands on. But there is something that is missing. This little something is what can be the deciding factor between winning and losing.
There are some things that only need ten tips; more important things such as poker need 11 tips.
Your psychology
The best advice anyone can give a poker player is to maintain a slight erratic image. Don’t let them figure you out. Also, don’t take this to the extreme by playing foolishly. You want your opponent to wonder what your next move will be. This means they’ll concentrate more on you and your actions than on what their next move should be. This is a powerful strategy because you’ll be a bigger threat than when you appear cool and calm. It could even help to curb aggressive opponents and make them more willing to let you take the lead.
Know thy statistics
You want to know whether your odds are significantly large enough to raise without fear? Some cards can easily get conquered; other cards are easier to raise than others. The odds that someone else has better cards than the ones you have are always high.
Get to grips with your poker tactics
What’s the point of betting mediocre hands when you can bet great hands instead? Try to control yourself when you want to make a bet on an average hand. There are of course a few exceptions but these exceptions are generally about maintaining the pressure and staying on stage.
7-Card Stud is one of the games where this regularly happens. There are very few reasons to bet medium hands. Use weak hands as a bluff and use strong hands if you want your opponents to call your bets. But medium hands? Check them. Those type of hands are not the ones that will get you much luck so don’t waste time on them.
